This book was just O.K. I really had high hopes for it. However, there just really wasn't a lot that went on. I felt like the epilogue was written in a hurry, just to be done with the book. There really wasn't a conclusion for me, such as for the article with Shelby, what happened with Maisie, how is Ellen progressing in her job, etc. I just thought, in my opinion, that the story just kind of fell flat.

Enjoyed this book.
I loved this book! It was a unique way to look at so many issues that face the people who serve in the military as well as those extended friends and family members who are connected through those that serve. Thought provoking and a great discussion book.
Amazing! Brilliant author! So well researched. The descriptions were so real and took my imagination and mind to another place. Also educational despite being a fictional book! Bravo!
This book is amazing. There are so many layers to the characters and plot in this novel. This is a page turner for sure, but look closely, and you'll see nuanced commentary on class and war, what it means to be a woman and how friendship, no matter how unorthodox is more meaningful than most things.
I couldn't put this book down. Beautifully written novel with strong characters and a compelling story. This multilayered novel explores several different relationships, mother/daughter, men/women, friendships between women. It also has a delightful snapshot of the politics of an academic university department. I kept thinking about the characters long after I finished the book. The growth of the characters over the course of the novel is very moving. Highly recommended. Great for book groups, lots to discuss here.
I loved this story and it gave me great insight into the lives of families who have military overseas and the complications of what happens when they return with disabilities. It is written from the perspective of a mother and wife - Highly recommend this book!
This novel succeeds on many levels. It is an important story that makes its point through the obvious intensive research by the author. After putting our soldiers through a meat grinder we fail to provide them the basic services they have earned. This is one of the big tragedies of our time and Emily Teadrow tells a story that will resonate with you every time you see a wounded veteran. We all have an obligation to read this painful tale and to respond in some real world way to the outrage it chronicles.
